Dedicated Trees
Within the 72 acres of Greystone an active program of tree planting and nurturing has gone on since 1998. The first endeavor was to plant 200 evergreens to provide wildlife habitat and erosion control. Each of these trees was dedicated to a specific individual and GPS Spotted in hopes of connecting these individuals to a tree. Other evergreens have been added by America Corps volunteers, Boy and Cub Scouts, and SUNY Fredonia students sometimes for erosion control and sometimes to celebrate Earth Day totaling 100 trees. SUNY Fredonia students from Environmental Literature classes have also planted another 75 trees and have established a Literary Grove by dedicating some of the trees to favorite environmental authors. Parents, teachers, friends and comrades who have passed have been remembered with many different tree plantings. Several times a year volunteers and staff tend and nurture all of these trees.
